Snails Slugs are Harmful To Plants

Appearance/Size:

They are soft-bodied, but actually have small shells on the interior of their flesh on their back. Slugs can be 1/4″ to 10″ long, and have eyestalks that look like antennae.

Prefered Habitat:

Slugs can be found under rocks, flower pots, and other damp locations. Snails can be found in a very wide range of environments including ditches, deserts, and the abyssal depths of the sea.

Reproduction:

Having both male and female reproductive organs, they lay eggs (oval-shaped white clusters of about 2 dz.) under rocks, In the soil , under rotting leaves or debris. Eggs remain for years, waiting for the right conditions to hatch.

Eat:

Plant leaves and can be a nuisance in gardens. They eat new growth on plants, seedlings. Feeding at night, damage is noticed the next day on plants or when slime trails are visible. The trails make a highway straight to the plants.

The Cure:

Adults overwinter in the soil and can live for many years if not stopped. Use Fossil Shell Flour, Slug Traps, Salt, Slug Magic, Sluggo and others.
