Appearance/Size:

Average size is 3/4 to 1 3/4 inches long. Tell a dragonfly or damselfly by the size of the eyes and shape of the abdomen. The eyes are very large in proportion to the head and the abdomen is long and thin.

Prefered Habitat:

Damselfly nympHs are hatched in shallow water and tend to stay in the shallows among weed beds where food is plentiful. They prefer the marshes, ponds and lakes. They usually stay in shallow clean water.

Reproduction:

They mate over shallow water. The female lays her eggs in submerged vegetation. The adult will live for several weeks to several months before mating and dying.

Eat:

Immature stages are aquatic and prey on freshwater organisms including mosquito larvae and other small aquatic insects. Adults prey on flies, mosquitoes and moths, some species prey on beetles and caterpillars..

Release Rates:

Release around water. Damselflys do not pose threats to humans (they don’t bite), but they can be cannibilistic when food sources are scarce.
