Geraniol is a monoterpenoid alcohol

That occurs as a minor constituent in the essential oil makeup of certain cannabis chemovars.

This aromatic compound has a very distinctive rose-like scent, often described as exceptionally floral with delightful fruity nuances. Some also detect pointers of peach, plum or raspberry in its aroma profile. The fragrance is quite potent and recognizable.

In nature, geraniol appears most predominantly as the chief component in rose oil that gives it that quintessential scent. It also comprises a major fraction of citronella oil. Geraniol drives the pleasant smell across various herbs, fruits and flowers - from blueberries to peaches and lavender.

Research indicates geraniol possesses a wide range of promising therapeutic qualities:

• Potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective activities
• Demonstrates antimicrobial effects against certain common bacteria
• Exhibits pest-repellant and mosquito larvicidal effects
• Appears to inhibit growth of certain cancer cell lines
• Confirmed in animal models to relieve neuropathic pain

While typically not the dominant terpene in most strains, geraniol’s presence likely complements the overall cannabis chemovar experience through synergistic interplay with more abundant compounds like limonene and pinene.
