Beta-caryophyllene is an abundant terpenoid in cannabis

Often occurring as the second-most prevalent one after myrcene. As a bicyclic sesquiterpene, it contains 15 carbons.

This compound has a rich, peppery aroma with spicy herbal notes. The scent is bold and almost bites the nose like taking a strong whiff of black peppercorn. Some also pick up woody, clove-like hints.

Abundant in nature, beta-caryophyllene occurs most famously in black peppercorn and contributes substantially to that pungent kick. It also dominates essential oils from herbs like clove, hops and rosemary.
